Building an engine, Day 3

With the block and cylinders painted (and looking good, if I do say so
myself), we got to work on the actual assembly work. Troy is the name
of the builder, and he's got about 15 years of experience, so for the
most part I helped and learned when and where I could, but tried no to
slow the process down too much. The pictures tell a good story, but
one of the many things I came to appreciate is the strict quality and
discipline that these guys employ to build every engine. All work is
logged in detail, signed, and where necessary, cross checked in real-
time by a different person. That's a level of quality that can't be
had in a one man shop, no matter what you're told. By the end of the
day we were waiting on a carb, and were set up for a test run for the
next morning.
